Week of October 16th Newsletter

October 16th, 2015

Ms. Mac’s Newsletter

Hello families of the Kindergarten class of Room 138!

The leaves are turning as we are learning this time of year!  The students have been been doing a lot of science and math work around leaves that we have collected as a class. The students are answering questions like are our leaves wide? Are our leaves thin or narrow?  Our class has also been sorting leaves and making graphs based on leaf colors.  As we get closer to Halloween we will be doing math and science work around pumpkins.

The letters in Fundations that the students have been learning over the past couple weeks have been  A, B, C, D, F, G, I, M, N, O, S, T, and U.  The students practice daily writing formation using white boards and markers as well as using pencils and journals.  The students also use flash cards and magnetic tiles through daily routines to master letter identification and letter sound skills.  The whole class has been doing a wonderful job learning and matching new rhyming words together and clapping out syllables in their names and other words.

Our next field trip is the GoodNight Moon performance that had been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 3rd at 10:00 am. Parent conferences are also coming up in the month of November.  In the communication folder there will be sign-up sheets for the dates and times that parent conferences will be held.  The parent conference allows all participants to get a full picture of how your child’s transition to school has been.  It is wonderful to be able to discuss your child’s progress and goals for the next block of the school year.  Please sign up for a time and return it in their communication folders.

The students have been enthusiastic and ready to learn.  Each day the students are more confident in their routines and expectations in the classroom and in the school building.  It is fantastic to already see their progress even in this short time we have been together.  I hope everyone has a great weekend and is able to get outside to enjoy the foliage!

Sincerely,

Ms. Mac
