Canada Maps

The second grade students have been studying Canada.  The class has learned facts as well as historical events that have happened in different provinces and territories.  Each student is proud of their labeled and complete map, of the country north of the USA!

Week of March 25th Update

Hello families of the second grade class,

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend.  It was great to see families in person at parent conferences last week.  I really enjoyed chatting about how your children have been doing, and how much they have progressed since the beginning of the school year.  If we haven't met quite yet, I am looking forward to seeing you soon.

I hope families were able to play and see the Taco Cat mini golf hole our class designed, if you were able to make it on Golf Day last Saturday at DBS.  The kids worked really hard on it and I think it came out amazingly.  We need to give a big Thank you to Mrs. Broderick, Mrs. Shepard, and Mrs. Lowery who helped us organize the final part on Thursday, and get it in the Library before the weekend tournament.

I also wanted to add that at the beginning of April we are launching our Spring PBL unit that is based on what makes a community a desirable place to live. A portion of this PBL will center around the services that provide people with things they need (education, healthcare, transportation, government, etc). That said, we would like to invite parents to come in to speak to the second graders about your jobs and careers so that the kids can have a better understanding of these services. If you would like to come talk to the students about your job, please sign up for a 10 minute slot HERE. We will combine both second grade classes so that students can hear parents from both classes. We look forward to seeing you! If none of these times work, and you would really like to come in, we can find a different day and time.

If there are any questions or concerns, always feel free to email me back. Thanks so much and have a nice night!

Sincerely,

Ms. Mac

Taco Cat Mini Golf Hole 2019

The second grade class needs to give a big shout out to Mrs. Broderick our Art Teacher who helped the students organize how they wanted to build their mini golf hole.  Mrs. Shepard and Mrs. Lowery were also huge helpers to our students outside of art class time, so that the class was able to complete the project (even throughout losing time with snow days and delays).  The students collaborated to create an excellent and fun mini golf hole.  They were very proud of their teamwork, dedication, and success.

Shamrock Shakes

One of our students has a special birthday tradition of creating Shamrock Shakes with Mom, for the class!  The students loved that tradition and treat!  Thank you for the Shamrock Shakes and happy birthday to our March birthday girl!

Art Detectives 2019

Susan Shimko from the Ava Art Gallery helped us create beautiful works of art based off from Diego Rivera's paintings.  The students were very focused.
